Morecambe’s Dave Chisnall has progressed to round three in the PDC World Darts Championships after a 3-1 victory over Cameron Menzies.
Chizzy survived a slow start at the Alexandra Palace, losing all three legs to drop the opening set.
But, after hitting a 180, Chisnall got his first leg of the match to begin the second set and with his level much improved, After taking a two leg lead, Menzies broke back to square the set, where in the deciding leg, it was Chisnall who took it, getting back on level terms.
He then raced through the next set, winning three legs without much pressure being applied on him by Menzies.
Leading the fourth set 2-1, Menzies then passed up multiple set darts, allowing Chisnall to return and punish him.
After a couple of missed match darts, he got himself over the line to book his place in round three.
Chizzy said he needed to improve if he was to stand a chance of winning his first televised tournament.
‘’It ended up being a tough game for me,’’ he told PDC TV.
‘’I know Cammy can play. First set, I just wasn’t there and I couldn’t find anything. I was throwing fast as well, I needed to slow down and I did.
‘’I was rushing and I was too hot.
‘’I know I’m playing some good darts in the Euro tournaments, and these are big stages. But it’s hard work up there.’’
