Burnley striker Mellon returns for second spell at Morecambe

Michael Mellon has today completed a return to Morecambe FC from Burnley, on a season long loan.

The young striker will return to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, after having his spell with the Shrimps cut short by injury last term.

19-year-old Mellon, who spent the first period of his youth career with Manchester United before joining the Clarets, made only eight appearances for Morecambe after joining on loan in January 2023. His first start under Derek Adams came in a 5-1 victory over Bristol Rovers.

A shoulder injury suffered against Fleetwood Town ended his loan spell prematurely.

On bringing Michael back to Morecambe, Derek Adams said: “It’s great for us to get Michael back for the season. He was terribly unlucky to suffer the injury he did and the timing of it. During his time with us he had shown flashes of what he could do, and we want to keep pushing that.”

“We have obviously tracked and monitored Michael for a long time given he was with us last season, so we know what we are getting and look forward to helping him develop whilst he is with us.”

Mellon added: “I am really happy to be back. Obviously, my injury last year cut short my time with the club, but I want to get back to work now and hopefully play my part for the team.”

“I want keep pushing myself and keep trying to reach little targets and I feel this is a really good place for me to do that this season."
