Your guide to dates of industrial action as further rail strikes begin in North Lancashire

Another major rail strike is under way affecting services in North Lancashire with further industrial action across a range of services still to come.

Rail workers will strike for four days this week and Network Rail is advising passengers to only travel if necessary.

Trains will be disrupted severely with only 20 per cent of services running between 7.30am and 6.30pm.

The strikes by Network Rail staff are taking place nationwide today, tomorrow (December 14), Friday December 16, Saturday December 17, December 24-27, then they will be joined in industrial action by train companies on January 3 and 4, and January 6 and 7.

In addition, staff at Royal Mail will strike on Wednesday December 14, Thursday December 15, Friday December 23 and Saturday December 24.

The last posting day for first class delivery before Christmas is now on Friday, December 16. The final date for second class post has already come and gone, having been brought forward from December 19 to December 12.

Royal Mail has said it will not deliver first and second class letters on strike days but will deliver as many parcels and Special Delivery letters as possible.

Nurses in England and Wales will also take industrial action on Thursday December 15 and Tuesday December 20, and ambulance workers will strike on Wednesday December 21 and December 28.

There will also be industrial action on selected dates by driving examiners and Border Force officials.

Most of the walkouts are about trying to secure pay rises that keep up with rising prices but some are also about pensions, working conditions and job security.

RMT Union members rejected a fresh pay offer from Network Rail yesterday, calling it "way below inflation" and "unacceptable".

Andrew Haines, chief executive of Network Rail, said there was a "good deal on the table".
