Young local litter heroes clean up Ryelands

A group of local litter heroes joined forces recently to do their bit to create a better environment around the Ryelands area of Lancaster.

The young group took part in an after-school litter pick, in and event organised by Ryelands Residents’ Community Group.

Armed with equipment provided by Lancaster City Council, they collected a whopping 26 bags of rubbish in just one hour.

Anyone wanting to make a difference to their local environment, either as an individual or a group and might benefit from support, can email publicrealm@lancaster.gov.uk and someone will be in touch.

Equipment available includes high viz vests, litter pickers and bags as well as a collection service at the end of the event.

A community clean-up is a great way to show that you and your group care about your local environment. It will also encourage other local residents to take pride in their neighbourhoods.

However big or small you intend your event to be, the council can lend you all weeding and litter picking equipment and give you all the advice your volunteers will need for a successful, safe and enjoyable event.

They even come and take away the weeds and litter you collect at the end of the day.
