Vigil to be held in Lancaster to mark first anniversary of Russian invasion of Ukraine

A vigil will be held in Lancaster tomorrow to mark first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Residents are invited to a candlelit vigil outside the Town Hall on Dalton Square, this Friday (February 24) from 6:45pm to mark the anniversary.

As well as the lighting of candles, there will be a period of silence and reflection.

A spokesperson for Lancaster Churches Together said: ‘’On Friday it will be one year since Ukraine was invaded by Russia.

‘’We are marking this by standing in solidarity with our friends from Ukraine who find themselves in Lancaster, far away from their homes, friends and families.

‘’We are meeting at Dalton Square at 6.45 pm for 3 minutes silence at 7pm, with possibly some prayers and reflections from the Ukrainian Community.

‘’Please bring a candle and a Ukrainian flag if you have one.

‘’If you are unable to join us physically, we ask that you remember us in your prayers.’’
