VIDEOS and PHOTOS: Thousands enjoy first ever live music concerts on Morecambe FC pitch

The first ever live music concerts on the pitch at Morecambe Football Club have been hailed as a huge success.

Thousands of people partied at the Mazuma Stadium over the weekend at two shows featuring stars of West End musicals 'Mamma Mia' and 'We Will Rock You'.

This was the first time the club had ever hosted concerts on a specially-built stage on the pitch.

Around 3,000 people attended over the two nights and the club plans to host more outdoor concerts in future.

Feedback from concert-goers has been extremely positive, with posts on the club's Facebook page describing the weekend as "absolutely brilliant" and "fantastic".

The atmosphere was electric on both Friday night, for an evening of Abba, and on Saturday for the music of Queen.

The audience, some of whom were close to the stage on a section of the pitch, with others in the main stand seats and hospitality boxes, sang along, danced, clapped and cheered to all the hits from two of the world's most famous bands - performed by singers and musicians who have appeared in the West End shows in London.

Many were in fancy dress, including seven-year-old Max as Queen front man Freddie Mercury!

Support on Friday came from Elena Reeve and on Saturday from Amy Jo Clough.

Beyond Radio's Greg Lambert (pictured below with Amy Jo) hosted the stage on both nights, with support from DJ and singer Mark Caudle on the Friday.

DJs Steve Middlesbrough and Jay Margerison hosted an 80s after-party in the Local Choice Suite on Saturday.
