VIDEO: Tyson Fury sings duet with 99-year-old D-Day veteran in Morecambe

Tyson Fury meets D-Day veteran Norman James Earp Smith at Morecambe Football Club

World heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury sang a duet with a 99-year-old veteran of the D-Day landings while on a surprise visit in Morecambe.

Fury stopped by at the Armed Forces Veterans' Coffee Morning at Morecambe Football Club where he met Norman James Earp Smith.

The WBC Heavyweight Champion and the Second World War hero then launched into an impromptu sing-song!

"I hear you like a little bit of Frank Sinatra," said 'The Gypsy King' to Mr Smith, while sitting beside him in JB's Bar at the club.

When Norman said he liked singing 'My Way', Fury said: "Go on, let's hear it!" and the two men sang together.

"He's unbelievable!" said the boxing champion, who is renowned for singing in the ring after his big fights.

Norman celebrates his 100th birthday in May.

Here is our video clip of Tyson Fury and Norman Smith singing their duet.

Tyson had been asked along to the Morecambe FC Community Sports event after bumping into Army veteran Jay McMahon while both were training at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre.

"We were in the gym and I was talking to Tyson about being in the Forces," said Mr McMahon, who is from Morecambe.

"He and his trainer Kristian said that they wanted to do something to support the veterans. So I invited him along to a coffee morning."

Jay is pictured below with Tyson outside the football stadium on Wednesday.

The Morecambe FC coffee mornings are held each month at the football club, and attended by Armed Forces veterans from across the local area.

They were delighted when the world heavyweight champion, his dad John and son Prince popped in to say hello on Wednesday morning.

"Tyson being here helps to raise the profile massively," said Stuart Glover from Morecambe FC Community Sports (pictured below with colleague Gary Heys and Fury).

"You can see the smiles he's put on the veterans' faces, and the duet with Norman was the icing on the cake!"

Fury will soon be heading off to Saudi Arabia ahead of his undisputed heavyweight boxing championship fight with Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday May 18.

So the 6ft9in fighter politely declined the offer of a bacon butty while at the coffee morning, saying he was on a strict diet ahead of the big fight!

The champ's visit capped off an amazing 24 hours for Morecambe FC Community Sports Veterans' Project.

The project, which aims to reduce isolation of Armed Forces veterans, won the EFL (English Football League) Community Project of the Season in League Two, at the EFL Community Awards 2024, held at the House of Commons in London on Tuesday.
