VIDEO: Scooters take over Morecambe Prom at successful 'Rides Again' weekend

Scooterists gather on the West End Promenade in Morecambe after a ride-in on Saturday

Morecambe was treated to a weekend of nostalgia as bike-lovers rode into town for an annual celebration of scooter history.

Scooters braved torrential rain and high winds to travel from all over the UK to the Morecambe Rides Again event.

They took part in a Ride-in from The Battery to Wray and then back along Morecambe Promenade on Saturday and enjoyed a full weekend of live music at West End venues The Exchange, The Boardwalk and the Alhambra.

The event took place in memory of Craig Shellnack, Lee Burns and former Beyond Radio presenter Bobby Keit.

A total of £2,500 was raised for local charity the Karen Whitfield Foundation.

The Morecambe Rides Again event is a throwback to the past when the town was famed for its scooter rallies.

"Thanks to everyone who came to Morecambe and supported our weekender," said organiser Mark Dugan in a post on the Morecambe Rides Again Facebook page.

"Plenty of familiar faces, lots of new faces and from all over the UK. Your support is very much appreciated.

"And as a result of the great turnout the Karen Whitfield Foundation will be receiving £2500 for their charity. So, well done to all of you!!

"Thanks also to all those that took part and supported the event, Rob and Debbie Ellershaw at The Exchange, Lee and Maree at The Boardwalk, Fiona, Alex and the team at The Alhambra, our sound engineers for the weekend Andrew Prince, Bernie Kelly and Nigel Midgeley, The Centurion Scooter Club who marshalled the ride in so well, Bridge House Farms Tea Rooms at Wray for their hospitality, the public realm team at Lancaster City Council for allowing us the use of the West End Gardens, Beyond Radio for their excellent coverage in the build up to and during the weekend, Paul Kelly for his excellent DJ stints between bands.

"All the bands – The Call Up, The Tall Faces, The Skapones, The Inciders, Re-Start, The Odels, Away From The Numbers and Skaledonia – you all absolutely smashed it!

"Special thanks to the families of Bobby Keit, Craig Shellnack and Lee Burns for allowing us to run the event in their honour and also taking part in the weekend – the lads will have been extremely proud of you.

"A scooter weekend does take a ‘little’ bit of organising but we’re fortunate to have two great people on the team – Lee Bradbury and Jon Hoey who both have the passion to see Morecambe succeed. Thanks for your advice, help and getting things done fellas.

"And the final debt of gratitude goes to the Dugan Clan – Joan, Charlotte, Oliver and Ricky Staniforth. Manning the door, taking photos, offering advice and support and having to walk the mass scooter ride up along Morecambe seafront was a bit of surprise for Joan, but she cracked on with it!! Couldn’t do it without these guys!

"We’ll be looking at doing it all again next year and the provisional date will be the weekend of 19th July 2024."
