Vandal climbs scaffolding to flood Morecambe pub with hosepipe causing up to £20K damage

The Bath Hotel in Morecambe is currently under renovation

Up to £20,000 of damage was caused to a Morecambe pub after a vandal climbed scaffolding and flooded the building using a hosepipe.

Police are appealing for information after the incident at the Bath Hotel in the town centre.

The pub building on Northumberland Street has scaffolding outside because of renovations to convert the upper floors into holiday flats.

Detective Inspector Adie Knowles, speaking on his regular Beyond the Beat feature on Beyond Radio, said: "On June 18 into the 19th, someone has scaled up the scaffolding and decided to put a hosepipe into the building which has caused significant damage, anything between £10,000 and £20,000 of damage according to the owner.

"We don't think anything has been stolen but clearly they've gone with the intention of disrupting that renovation at the pub.

"There are two flats being renovated above the pub. The damage has been caused between the two flats which are under renovation."

The Bath was forced to close while repairs were being carried out.

The upper floors are being converted into 11 apartments for holidaymakers in an investment of around £200,000.

If you have any information please call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
