A man who was arrested on suspicion of racial abuse at the Morecambe v Bolton football match has been released on bail.
The 61-year-old man from Morecambe, who was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, is under bail conditions while further investigation takes place.
Det Sgt Adie Knowles from local police, spoke to Beyond Radio about the police investigation into incidents at Saturday's game on his regular 'Beyond the Beat' segment on Tuesday night.
"There had been a report of racial abuse from the crowd near the Bolton dugout," he said.
"An investigation has very much begun. An arrest was made the day after of an individual, who has been released on bail with certain conditions, while we make further enquiries.
"We are working alongside Morecambe FC, Bolton Wanderers FC and the FA and we will do a thorough investigation into everything that has gone on in terms of that football match."
Det Sgt Knowles also said police were investigating other allegations after incidents on Saturday involving football supporters, after the game had ended.
He said there were reports of a 16-year-old boy being assaulted near the Hurley Flyer (pub) and of an assault on a man in a mobility scooter that occurred near the William Mitchell (pub).
Meanwhile, a number of Bolton fans who were arrested for either assault, pitch encroachment or being drunk and disorderly have been bailed, released under investigation or given penalty notices.
A 29-year-old man from Manchester has been charged with pitch encroachment and is due to appear before magistrates in Lancaster on March 1.
Det Sgt Knowles said that Saturday's events are "rare" at Morecambe Football Club which is "a family club".
Replying to questions about the amount of police presence at the game, he said: "Any big event where you have a large crowd of people, we police accordingly to the risk.
"There will have been in depth discussions about what would have been proportionate for the police response, before the Morecambe match.
"We have a debrief process for every game; did we do enough, could we have done things better? That will be happening for this event."
