Two mountains left on Lancaster boy's epic climbing challenge after snowy Cairngorm success

A six-year-old Lancaster boy has just two mountains left to conquer in an epic fundraising challenge after he climbed a Scottish peak in heavy snow.

Oscar Burrow hiked up the 1245m Cairngorm mountain on Thursday and has now raised more than £28,000 for Derian House children's hospice.

The St Wilfrid's School in Halton pupil is aiming to climb 12 of the UK's highest peaks.

His attempt to climb Cairngorm was delayed for 24 hours due to blizzard conditions on Wednesday, when temperatures at the peak dropped to minus four and there were 70mph winds.

Conditions in the Cairngorms National Park improved on Thursday although Oscar and his support team of family and friends still had to face snowfall as they trekked up the sixth highest mountain in Britain.

He was joined by dad Matt, grandad Mark, and friends Ollie and Paul Perkins.

Oscar has also climbed Inglebrough, Whernside, Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn, Skiddaw, Blencathra, Snowdon, Glyder Fawr and Scafell Pike, and still has to climb Stob Dearg and finally Ben Nevis.

His mission is to climb 12 mountains in the UK at a total height of 8,849 metres, the same as the world's highest peak in the Himalayas.

Oscar is seen here during his visit to the Beyond Radio studio earlier this year with mum Kim and grandad Mark.
