Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Tyson Fury's cousin who was stabbed to death during a night out.

Rico Burton, 31, died after being stabbed in the neck in Altrincham during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Fury, the Morecambe-based WBC World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, posted a tribute to Mr Burton on his social media on Sunday, along with an image which said 'Stop Knife Crime'.

"My cousin was murdered last night, stabbed in the neck, this is becoming ridiculous idiots carry knives," said Tyson.

"This needs to stop šŸ›‘ Asap, UK government needs to bring higher sentencing for knife crime, it's a pandemic & you don't know how bad it is until it's one of your own!

"Life is very precious and it can be taken away very quick enjoy every momentšŸ™RIP RICO BURTON šŸ™ may the lord God grant you a good place in heaven. See you soon #onlycowardscarryweapons."

Det Supt Ben Ewart of Greater Manchester Police said that a murder investigation was under way, and that a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old man had been arrested and were both in custody.

Emergency services received multiple calls at around 3am on Sunday about the attack in the Goose Green area of Altrincham, Cheshire.

On arrival, they found Mr Burton and a 17-year-old boy, with stab wounds receiving first aid from members of the public.

Both victims were taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary where Mr Burton died. The boy remained in hospital with serious injuries.

Det Supt Ewart described the attack as "senseless".

"Both victims should have returned home after enjoying a night out with friends," he said.

"Goose Green is a popular night spot and would have been busy at the time.

"I appeal for anyone who was there overnight on Saturday August 20 or anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

"Knife crime remains a priority for Greater Manchester Police, the devastating effect of which has been demonstrated."
