The traffic lights chaos causing headaches for shoppers at Carnforth supermarkets is now under control, says a council.

Carnforth Town Council said that temporary traffic lights which have been causing problems for vehicles coming out of the Aldi and Booths car parks on Scotland Road are now being manually controlled.

This came after complaints from motorists about the traffic lights, which are in place until March 10 for road works in the area to install a new water connection and sewer.

Lancashire County Council, who are in charge of local highways, asked contractors from Aptus to take control of the lights - which they are doing between 7am and 7pm.

"Works continue to progress well and there will be reinstatement teams onsite this weekend resulting in the lights at Aldi/Booths being moved closer to the four way junction first thing on Monday 20th February," said a spokesperson for Carnforth Town Council.

However a motorist posted on Facebook on Friday that traffic problems persisted in the area.

"Traffic is backed up to Crag Bank, four times the lights changed at Tesco and nothing moved," he said.
