Three arrested after large-scale cannabis factory found in former Morecambe bank

The quantities of growing cannabis were found in the former Barclays bank building in Morecambe

Three people have been arrested after a large number of growing cannabis plants were found in a former bank building in Morecambe town centre.

Police found the cannabis set-up in the old Barclays bank on Euston Road in Morecambe after a tip-off from a member of the public.

Around 80 plants were discovered and destroyed. Evidence was also found that the electricity had been bypassed.

Two men, aged 21 and 39, from Preston, were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and have since been released under investigation.

A man, 48, from Preston, was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and has been released on bail.

A police spokesperson said: "The cannabis set up was located in the old Barclays bank on Euston Road in Morecambe.

"This was thanks to some information from a member of the public which we are massively grateful for.

"I would request anyone with any information about anywhere they are concerned there may be a suspected cannabis grow to contact us. 

"We rely on intelligence from the local community and businesses. 

"Cannabis cultivation set ups are linked to human trafficking, County Lines and serious organised crime groups. Vulnerable people are used and exploited within the set up and maintence of these grows."

The Barclays branch closed in the five-storey Grade II listed building in 2020.
