Storm warnings and travel disruption as Storm Isha set to batter UK with up to 80mph winds

Gusts of up to 80mph are due to batter the UK on Sunday bringing a risk to life in coastal areas, says the Met Office.

Storm warnings are in place for the whole of the country apart from London and parts of the South East.

The Met Office said this is "relatively rare".

Weather warnings from the Met Office for North Lancashire and the Morecambe Bay area are as follows:

Amber warning for wind from 6pm on Sunday until 6am on Monday

Yellow warning for rain for Sunday until 6am on Monday

A spell of very strong and perhaps damaging winds associated with Storm Isha is likely to bring disruption.

The Met Office said there was a good chance of power cuts, which could affect mobile phone signal in affected areas, while roads and bridges are likely to be shut.

The forecaster also said there was a risk to life in coastal areas from large waves and debris being blown inland.

Heavy rain is likely to lead to flooding across parts of northern England on Sunday and early Monday.

Rail company Avanti West Coast has advised people not to travel and is operating a reduced timetable with the last trains of the day departing at 4pm.
