Morecambe Football Club has confirmed that manager Stephen Robinson has left the Mazuma Stadium to join St. Mirren.
This comes after the Club gave St. Mirren permission to speak to Stephen on Monday 21 February.
Assistant Manager Diarmuid O’Carroll also departs and will join Stephen at the Scottish Premiership side.
In a statement the club said: ''We would like to thank Stephen and Diarmuid for their work since joining the Club in June 2021.
''Barry Roche will take charge of Tuesday night’s game against Rotherham United, with the process of appointing a new manager now underway.''
The 47-year-old took over from Derek Adams last June, signing a three-year deal. In Morecambe’s first ever season in League One, the Shrimps currently sit in 21st place, inside the relegation zone, but just one point from safety with 14 games of the season still to play.
The bombshell has shocked Morecambe fans, many of whom have taken to social media to vent their frustrations, especially as Robinson had recently stated he’d purchased a property in the local area, indicating he saw the club as a long-term project.
Robinson has had success north of the border previously, having managed Motherwell before leaving in December 2020, spending three-and-a-half years in charge at Fir Park. During this time, he led the club to two domestic cup finals and
St Mirren are currently 7th in the Scottish Premiership and also through to the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup. The Saints are looking for a new manager after former boss Jim Goodwin left to become the new manager of Aberdeen last week.
