"Staggering demand" as 85,000 buy tickets for Tyson Fury fight in three hours

Tyson Fury's promoter is applying for more capacity at Wembley Stadium after 85,000 tickets to the Morecambe man's next fight were sold in three hours.

Frank Warren wants the Wembley capacity for Fury's WBC Heavyweight Title fight with Dillian Whyte to be increased to 100,000 fans, which would make it the largest post-war boxing attendance in UK history.

This comes after 85,000 tickets were snapped up by fans for the April 23 bout after they went on sale at noon today from Ticketmaster.

"Should Queensberry Promotions' application to extend the crowd to 100,000 be granted, tickets will be announced in due course and again, will be sold via Ticketmaster," said a statement at Frankwarren.com

As we went to press there are still a limited number of Platinum tickets available online, at prices of £695 and above.

5,000 coach travel package tickets are yet to be released.

Details for the sale of the remaining coach packages will be announced in the coming days and will be available via Ticketmaster.co.uk.

Frank Warren's website described demand after tickets went on sale today as "instant and at a staggering level".

At one point 170,000 people were in the virtual queue on the Ticketmaster website, trying to buy tickets at prices ranging from £61 up to £4210.

Later on Wednesday, world heavyweight champion Fury posted a video to his social media, drinking a beer to salute everyone who bought tickets.

Frank Warren said: “I always imagined that this fight wouldn’t be a hard sell so I am happy we opted to stage it in the biggest and best venue in the UK.

"This illustrates just what a big draw Tyson has become, his personality is infectious and he truly is a champion of the people."
