A seven-year-old boy has won two trophies at an annual village summer show.
Jenson Lofthouse won the J Withington Challenge Cup for Children's Art Photos and the Mrs A Woods Cup for Children's Model Making at the Bolton le Sands Horticultural Society's 93rd Annual Show.
Jenson was also a runner for the summer show's auction which raised funds for the Forget-me-not Centre at St John’s Hospice.
The show was held on August 12 at the Village Community Centre where, despite the drought in June and downpours in July, villagers showed it had been a bumper year for fruit and vegetables.
The B Noon Memorial Trophy was presented to Martin Ellam of Arkholme for his winning entries in the onion classes.
Martin Ellam also won the National Vegetable Society Silver Medal and the Blue Ribbon for best Horticultural Exhibit for class 66: four coloured potatoes.
Vegetables judge Jim Robinson of Endmoor and flowers judge Jack Gott of Milnthorpe both agreed that the winning spuds, a variety called Blue Belle, "outshone all the other horticultural exhibits in the show".
Martin Ellam went on to win the RHS Banksian Medal for winning the largest amount of prize money in all the horticultural classes.
An item that was initially thought to be a gas cylinder, when it was brought into the hall in a big black holdall, turned out to be the Heaviest Marrow, weighing in at 6kg (that’s just under a stone in old money) grown by Andrew Severn.
Two committee members, Colin Hargreaves and Wendy Hargreaves, were presented with RHS Bronze medals for 20 years long service to the committee, as a thank you for the huge contribution they have made to events over the years. They are pictured below with society President David Regan (centre).
The show was opened by Rev. Peter Hamborg of Bolton-le-Sands Holy Trinity Church who congratulated the committee on such a wonderful show.
A total of 180 people came through the doors to enjoy the exhibition and coffee and cakes provided by the Women's Insitute.
This year’s auction was conducted by Steve Slater, social secretary, aided by Chief Steward Chris Bainbridge and Jenson Lofthouse as auction runner, raising £48 - half of which will be donated to the society's charity of the year, the Forget-me-not Centre at St John’s Hospice.
Louise Belcher, show secretary, thanked all the committee members, helpers, exhibitors and visitors who made the show such a great success.
