A second street warden to help police tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Lancaster city centre is set to be appointed.
The Lancaster BID warden role has been extended to seven days a week for the next year thanks to a £10,000 grant from the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner.
This means the BID will be taking on a second person to ensure the role is covered all week long.
The BID Warden post began in 2020 and has been successful in tackling shoplifting and improving communication between businesses in the city centre.
Max Dior (pictured below) is the BID warden for Lancaster city centre. In his role he works closely with local businesses and partners including the police, and is also a familiar face to the public having often helped people who have had an accident or who need help finding somewhere in the city centre. The second BID warden will be appointed soon.
The money was awarded through the Safer Lancashire Neighbourhoods Fund.
"The funding will add to the increased investment from Lancaster BID to extend our BID Warden to seven days a week for the next year," said a BID spokesperson.
Lancaster BID (Business Improvement District) Ltd is a not for profit company which aims to create a more prosperous city centre.
All business properties with a rateable value of £10,000 and above within the BID area pay an annual levy of 1.5 per cent of the rateable value of their business. These payments generate a budget around £220,000 per year to spend on improving and promoting the city centre.
