Reign of King Charles III to be formally announced in Lancaster, Morecambe and Carnforth

The accession of King Charles III will be formally announced with ceremonies in Lancaster, Morecambe and Carnforth.

The Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor Joyce Pritchard will read a Proclamation of our new King, King Charles lll on the steps of Lancaster Town Hall at 3pm and Morecambe Town Hall at 4.15pm tomorrow, Sunday September 11. This will be a short ceremony.

All councillors and members of the public are invited to attend.

A short ceremony will also take place at the War Memorial Gardens in Carnforth on Sunday at 11am.

The ceremony will start with a short reflection on the life of our departed Queen and the laying of flowers, on behalf of the Carnforth community, on the steps of the War Memorial.

The formal proclamation of accession will then be read.

Everyone is invited to join the town mayor, Councillor Chris Smith, and other members and staff of Carnforth Town Council in this short ceremony.

Books of condolence will be available to sign.

The Union flags will also be raised at 11am today (Saturday September 10) when the Proclamation of the King is announced from St James' Palace in London.
