Police seize £4,200 of counterfeit cigarettes and vapes in Morecambe and Lancaster

Police have seized counterfeit cigarettes and vapes with a street value of £4,200 from shops in Morecambe and Lancaster.

Officers worked alongside Trading Standards to confiscate the items and warn stores about the current laws around selling counterfeit cigarettes and vapes.

In the UK, e-cigarettes are tightly regulated for safety and quality.

A police spokesperson said: "To protect children, while at the same time ensuring vaping products remain an accessible and affordable option for smokers wanting to switch, more needs to be done to address compliance and close regulatory loopholes.

"Trading Standards are playing a key role by working with local retailers to ensure they understand the law around electronic cigarettes and to reduce access among children.

"All stores who were visited were warned regarding the current legislation around selling counterfeit cigarettes and vapes.

"This can only be achieved with the help of yourselves, by making contact to the relevant agencies.

"You can report breaches of e-cigarette regulations, underage sales or illegal promotion in shops to Trading Standards through Citizens Advice."

Reports of breaches can be made here.
