Police investigate theft of van in Lancaster thought to be involved in ram raiding attempt

Police are investigating the theft of a van from a street in Lancaster, which is believed to have been involved in a failed burglary at Forton Services.

Overnight between Sunday (March 27) and Monday (March 28) a van was stolen from the Carr House Lane area of Lancaster. The vehicle, a grey and brown Volkswagen Transporter, was driven to the northbound side of Forton Motorway Services on the M6 where the driver and a passenger tried to enter WH Smith through the shutters. The van was found on fire in Claughton-on-Brock a short time later.

PC Ryan White said: “We are investigating the theft of a vehicle and the suspicious circumstances following its theft.

“I would ask motorists who may have noticed any suspicious activity or who have dashboard mounted cameras fitted who were visiting the northbound side of Forton Motorway Services at approximately 4.30am on Monday to get in touch.

"I'd also appeal to anyone who may have been in the area of Stubbins Lane in Claughton-on-Brock at approximately 5am on the same day to make contact.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or email 5725@lancashire.police.uk quoting log 0148 of March 28.
