Police hail success of Lancaster anti-social behaviour operation

Lancaster Police say an operation to crack down on anti-social behaviour in the city centre has been a success.

In recent weeks, police have stepped up patrols on Friday and Saturday nights in particular, after residents and businesses complained about a rise in anti-social behaviour.

A mobile police station van and plain clothes officers were deployed as part of the crackdown.

A spokesperson for the force said: ‘’Over the past few nights there has been a significant police presence in the city centre and surrounding areas.   This is due to an increase in anti-social behaviour involving several youth groups being reported.

‘’We are pleased to say that over the past two nights there has been a significant reduction in calls regarding anti-social behaviour.

‘’It’s great to see people in good spirits and enjoying their evening in town.

‘’We hope this comes as good news for everyone who regularly comes into the city centre.’’

Police are urging the public to report any incidents by phoning 101 or report online at lancashire.police.uk
