Platinum Jubilee: Beacons lit across North Lancashire

Beacons have been lit across North Lancashire to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

More than 3,500 beacons were lit up around the world to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, including in Morecambe, Lancaster and Carnforth.

Rain didn't dampen patriotic spirits on Morecambe Promenade on Thursday night as crowds enjoyed an evening of royal entertainment ahead of the lighting on the Stone Jetty.

The Morecambe beacon was lit (see video below) at 9.45pm by councillors Tricia Heath and Cary Matthews from Morecambe Town Council, who organised the event.

Piper Anthony Draper. DJ Gaz Sheppard and Morecambe-based soprano singer Leigh Rhianon Coggins (see video below) also entertained the crowds.

The evening rounded off with a fireworks display.

A beacon was also lit at Carnforth High School where there was an evening of entertainment organised by Carnforth Town Council.

This included a performance from singers Gabriella and Jasmine T, joined by a very important friend! Photo courtesy of Carnforth Town Council.

C&C Entertainments, and the St John's Hospice and Carnforth Community Choirs were also part of the line-up. The beacon was lit by Linda Denby from Carnforth Wombles, a community litter picking group.

A beacon lighting was also held at Lancaster Castle for invited guests only, and other locations for beacon lightings included Hornby, Warton and Kirkby Lonsdale.
