Part-sunken Lancaster Canal boat could be "removed in a few weeks"

The partially-sunken boat on Lancaster Canal

A partially-sunken boat causing a stir on Lancaster Canal could be removed in the next few weeks.

The damaged blue and white craft called the 'Happy Lynn' is by the side of the canal near the Water Witch pub, tipped over almost onto its side.

It has become a curiosity for people who walk along the canal and has been there for months, according to sources who spoke to Beyond Radio.

A Canal & River Trust spokesperson said: “We are aware of the sunken craft on the Lancaster Canal and we’re trying to make contact with the owner.

"We carry out regular boat checks along the canal and any craft found to be unlicensed or not meeting our terms and conditions are subject to usual enforcement processes which can ultimately lead to the removal of the craft from the water.

"The Trust is working with contractors to get the boat removed in the next few weeks.”

The Trust has to go through a legal Section 108 process in order to remove the craft but must first give a period of notice to the owner.
