'Out of this world' winners announced at Wray Scarecrow Festival

The theme of this year's Wray Scarecrow Festival is sci-fi and villagers have been getting into the alien spirit!

The winners of this year's Wray Scarecrow Festival competition were out of this world - literally!

The theme for the 2024 festival, where residents of the village near Lancaster create scarecrows and place them outside their homes in a colourful display, is science fiction.

So many of the entries in the annual competition were space-themed, with plenty of ETs, daleks and Star Wars characters to be seen!

Beyond Radio's Duncan Moore joined the judging panel on Tuesday to decide this year's best scarecrows.

Here is Duncan pictured with Lynsey Hall from Lancaster City Council and Hetty Byrne from the Forest of Bowland National Landscape.

The festival continues until May 6, culminating in Wray Scarecrow Fair on Bank Holiday Monday featuring the Beyond Radio Roadshow.

There will be dog agility, a ball race, Samba Espirito samba drummers, live music and silent disco, the Beyond Radio roadshow, and of course, lots and lots of scarecrows!

The annual giant scarecrow parade through Wray with the Batala samba drummers takes place this Friday, May 3 from 6.30pm.

Here are some of this year's scarecrows.
