Nominations for local elections in Lancaster and Morecambe district revealed

The list of people who will be standing in the local elections in the Lancaster and Morecambe district has been announced.

The full list can be found at the Lancaster City Council website.

The list shows the nominees who will be standing in the Lancaster City Council elections, as well as in parish council elections for Morecambe Town Council and Ellel Parish Council North ward and South ward.

The 27 Lancaster City Council wards where elections will take place are as follows:

Bare, Bolton and Slyne, Bowerham, Bulk, Carnforth and Millhead, Castle, Ellel, Halton-with-Aughton and Kellet, Heysham Central, Heysham North, Heysham South, John O'Gaunt, Lower Lune Valley, Marsh, Overton, Poulton, Scale Hall, Scotforth East, Scotforth West, Silverdale, Skerton, Torrisholme, University, Upper Lune Valley, Warton, West End, Westgate.

There is currently no political group with overall control of Lancaster City Council.

Labour has 16 councillors, the Green and Independent group has 15, the Conservatives have 9, the Morecambe Bay Independents have 6, the Independent group has 4, the Bay Independent Group has 4, the Liberal Democrats have 2 and there are two vacant seats.

 

The 11 Morecambe Town Council wards where elections will take place are as follows:

Bare North, Bare South East, Bare South West, Harbour, Heysham, Lowlands Road, Lune Drive, Out Moss Lane, Poulton, Torrisholme and Westgate.

Currently the Liberal Democrats have 8 Morecambe town councillors, the Morecambe Bay Independents have 6, the Bay Independent Group has 5, Labour has 3, Renew has 1, there are 2 Independents and one unaffiliated.

 

The elections for the following parish councils and wards are uncontested, meaning nominees will be automatically elected:

Aldcliffe-with-Stodday, Arkholme-with-Cawood, Bolton-le-Sands, Carnforth, Caton-with-Littledale, Ellel University East and University West wards, Halton-with-Aughton, Heaton-with-Oxcliffe, Hornby-with-Farleton, Ireby-with-Leck, Melling-with-Wrayton, Middleton, Nether Kellet, Over Kellet, Over Wyresdale, Overton, Quernmore, Scotforth, Silverdale, Slyne-with-Hest, Tatham, Thurnham, Warton, Wennington, Whittington, Wray-with-Botton, Yealand Conyers and Yealand Redmayne.

 

The local elections will take place on Thursday May 4.

The next Lancashire County Council elections are due in May 2025.

The next General Election is due to take place no later than January 2025.

Due to a change in law, voters must now bring ID when voting in local elections.
