New Look clothes store in Lancaster announces closure

The New Look store in Marketgate, Lancaster, will be closing

High street clothing chain New Look has announced it will be shutting its store in Lancaster city centre.

The outlet in the Marketgate shopping centre will close on September 2.

The closure was announced in a statement on the New Look Lancaster Facebook page.

It said: "Lancaster, we'll be closing on 2nd September, but don’t worry, you can still get your feel-good fashion fix online and on the app!"

One customer, responding to the news on the New Look Lancaster Facebook page, said it was the "end of an era" with another saying she was "absolutely gutted", "the staff are always brilliant" and it was "a shame for Lancaster".

Beyond Radio has contacted New Look for comment.

The shop at 11 Corn Market is having a 60 per cent off summer sale, see below.

New Look is one of Britain's largest clothing chains, employing more than 10,000 staff.

The chain has announced several store closures around the UK this year, including in Birmingham, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Coventry, Bristol, Northampton and Rhyl.

In May, it was reported that New Look had kicked off talks with its lenders about refinancing £100m of debt amid a tough trading outlook for Britain's major clothing retailers.

A source close to the company said it was prudent to explore refinancing options at this stage, and that it was trading well.

In the financial year ended March 25 2023, New Look reported total revenue of £895m and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of £42.2m - a year-on-year increase of more than 67 per cent.

The chain also had a store in the Arndale Centre in Morecambe - where Poundstretcher is now - but this closed several years ago.
