New Green councillor elected for Lancaster Castle ward

A new Green councillor has been elected after a by-election in Castle ward of Lancaster.

Isabella Metcalf-Riener was elected to sit on Lancaster City Council in Thursday's election.

"I am absolutely delighted to have been elected as Green Councillor for Castle Ward and I look forward to working hard to represent all Castle residents," said Councillor Metcalf-Riener.

"Thank you to everyone who voted for me and to the amazing Green team that worked so hard during the campaign."

The results were:

Isabella Metcalf-Riener (Green) 524 ELECTED

Emily Charlotte Jones (Labour) 212

Daniel Kirk (Conservative) 43

Cormac Evans (Liberal Democrats) 27

Turnout was 15.1 per cent

The seat became vacant after Green councillor Shelagh McGregor stepped down.

Labour has the largest group on the council with 23 seats. The Greens have 21, the Lib Dems 7, Conservatives 5, Morecambe Bay Independents 3 and there is one independent councillor.

A further by-election will be held soon in Carnforth and Millhead ward following the death of Labour councillor Paul Gardner.
