New £2.5million church centre to open in Lancaster

A new £2.5million church centre is set to open in the heart of Lancaster.

The state-of-the-art St Thomas' Church Centre has nine modern multi-purpose rooms that will be available to use by the public for meetings and events.

The centre has been the result of seven years of planning and is a beautiful modern building next to the 19th century church on Marton Street.

The building has been completely transformed from how it used to look. See below.

"We want to be able to create space for the city to gather, for people to book rooms and find hospitality in the middle of the city," said Rev Jon Scamman, vicar of St Thomas' Church.

"The facilities are available for hire by the community and we'd love to host your group, charity or business.

"We as a church will be using the rooms for lots of different things, student, youth and children's groups, a whole range of things. But we would be very happy to see other groups come in."

Listen to Jon Scamman talking about the new centre here:

The money came mainly from donations by more than 200 members of the St Thomas congregation, and also from various trust funds and donors, including the Lancashire Environmental Fund and the Lancaster University Wind Turbine Community Benefits Fund.

A grand opening will be held this Saturday (March 12) from 11am to 4pm. All are welcome to come to see what the centre has to offer.
