Mums begin £6,000 fundraising drive to improve Carnforth play park

Carnforth Canal Play Park on Kellet Road

A group of mums is looking to raise money to fund a new playground in Carnforth which is "in a sorry state".

The Friends of Carnforth Canal Park has been set up to raise funds for a "more inclusive, accessible and environmentally friendly park".

They have set up a fundraising page hoping for £6000 towards the project.

"Carnforth Canal Park is a well loved and well used park but it's currently in a bad state," said a spokesperson for the Friends.

"It hasn't been updated in a long time. We are hoping to raise enough funds through fundraising and grants.

"It's in a sorry state. There have been no improvements to the park in a number of years. We are a committee made up of mums who want to help create an amazing space for children in the local area and beyond."

The park is owned by Lancaster City Council. A council spokesperson said they had been approached by the Friends group and would meet with them in April to discuss the park's future.

The group has set up a Facebook page 'Friends of Carnforth Canal Park' and hope to arrange a public litter picking event in April to discuss plans for the playground.

The group's JustGiving page can be found here.
