Motorists warned of M6 maintenance works at Lancaster & Morecambe

Motorists are being warned of roadworks and diversions as a stretch of the M6 southbound is closed later this month for maintenance.

The resurfacing project begins on March 14th and will be mostly carried out overnight to minimise impact on drivers.

The programme includes two nights of resurfacing and overnight closures between junction 35 at Carnforth and junction 34 at Lancaster and a week of resurfacing work between junction 34 at Lancaster and junction 33 at Galgate. There will also be four nights of lane closures during the work.

For the junction 35 to junction 34 closure a diversion will operate via the A6, while between junction 34 to junction 33 the diversion will involve joining the A683 Bay Gateway and southbound A6 before heading through Lancaster city centre and then the A6 to Galgate.

The full scheme of work is as follows:

14th to 15th March

M6 J35 to J34 – Overnight closure southbound. Daytime lane closures with a 50mph temporary speed limit.

16th-22nd March and 30th March

M6 J34 and J33 - Overnight closure. Daytime lane closures with a 50mph temporary speed limit.

23rd -29th March

M6 J34 and 33 – Overnight and daytime lane closures with a temporary 50mph speed limit.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: ‘’To ensure journeys are maintained, there will be signed diversion routes in place. But please allow additional time and check your journey before travelling. The diversion routes are outlined in the maps below.

‘’(We) aim to complete our work on time, but unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather may mean slight changes occur at short notice. Every effort will be made to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

‘’However, these works will inevitably generate some noise and inconvenience and National Highways apologise in advance for any disturbance that they may cause.’’
