Striking pieces of public art on Morecambe Promenade have been repainted after they were scrawled with racist and homophobic graffiti.
The artwork on Marine Road Central was redone ahead of the weekend's Vintage by the Sea festival which pulled tens of thousands of people to the Promenade.
One of the pieces of public art is located on a disused toilet block above the site of the former Dome/Bubbles/Super Swimming Stadium complex, which is earmarked for the planned £100m Eden Project Morecambe attraction.
Previously this artwork depicted the slogan 'Take the Plunge' but has been redone with a collage of ice cream sundaes (see below).
The other piece of artwork, on the grass behind the Midland Hotel, previously said 'Trip the Light Fantastic' but has been redone to simply say 'Fabulous' above a sunset.
The repainting was the work of a collective of local artists.
The original artwork was funded by Arts Council England and was a project by Morecambe-based arts company Deco Publique and local artists Shane Johnstone and Kate Drummond.

*The artwork was damaged in two separate graffiti attacks.
The most recent came during the night of August 18 and 19, when the Morecambe War Memorial, several buildings in Victoria Street and the Jump Rush trampoline centre were also scrawled with hateful graffiti.
The first graffiti incident came overnight on July 28/29 ahead of the Morecambe Pride event and parade.
The graffiti, which included homophobic slurs, violent messages and the Nazi swastika, was covered or removed and reported to the police

The culprit has not yet been found. Police continue to investigate and have released a CCTV image of the offender (below).
