Morecambe Music Festival extends to four days with new 'original music' night

Jay Blackburn is organising the new 'Introducing...' night for original music at Morecambe Music Festival 2023

Morecambe Music Festival will extend to four days this year with the addition of a new night to showcase original music.

Morecambe Music Festival 'Introducing....' will take place on Thursday July 6 at The Exchange in the West End of Morecambe.

This event to launch the 2023 festival will be primarily for artists who have not appeared at the festival before and who perform their own original music.

The line-up has not yet been revealed but Morecambe musician Jay Blackburn, who is organising the 'Introducing...' night, said talks were under way with artists and two acts have been confirmed to date.

"I want to offer something that you won't normally see in Morecambe any other weekend of the year," said Jay.

"The idea is to take it up a notch in terms of who we can attract to the festival in the future and with the line up we have 90 per cent confirmed for this show, I think we have done that."

This year's Morecambe Music Festival runs from Thursday July 6 to Sunday July 9.

The event was founded by Morecambe singer and event promoter Stuart Michaels, and first took place in 2017.

The festival attracts thousands of people into the town to enjoy live music across a wide range of venues from various acts, many of them local.

Stuart said: "We realise as a festival, as we grow, we have a duty to provide a platform for talented musicians to showcase their skills and have our full attention on the opening night of the weekend."
