Morecambe FC confirm St Mirren approach for Stephen Robinson

Morecambe FC have confirmed that they’ve been approached by Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren to speak to manager Stephen Robinson in relation to their managerial vacancy.

The Club has granted Stephen permission to speak to St. Mirren regarding the position.

In a brief statement the Club said they hoped for ‘a swift resolution to the matter’.

The 47-year-old took over from Derek Adams last June, signing a three-year deal. In Morecambe’s first ever season in League One, the Shrimps currently sit in 21st place, inside the relegation zone, but just one point from safety with 14 games of the season still to play.

The bombshell has shocked Morecambe fans, many of whom have taken to social media to vent their frustrations, especially as Robinson had recently stated he’d purchased a property in the local area, indicating he saw the club as a long-term project.

Robinson has had success north of the border previously, having managed Motherwell before leaving in December 2020, spending three-and-a-half years in charge at Fir Park.

St Mirren are currently 7th in the Scottish Premiership and also through to the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup. The Saints are looking for a new manager after former boss Jim Goodwin left to become the new manager of Aberdeen last week.

Morecambe travel to top of the table Rotherham United tomorrow in League One.
