Morecambe councillor in hospital after serious stroke

Councillor Janice Hanson

A long-serving Morecambe councillor has suffered a serious stroke.

Councillor Janice Hanson, a Lancaster city and Morecambe town councillor, suffered a stroke on Friday, it has been announced.

Her colleague in the local Labour group, Erica Lewis, said on her Facebook page on Sunday: "On Friday, Councillor Janice Hanson had a serious stroke and remains in hospital.

"As you will understand, Janice’s family is focused on supporting her and have said they will let us know if they need anything.

"Please keep Janice and her family in your thoughts and prayers."

A statement on the Morecambe and Lunesdale Labour Party page said: "The way strokes can change people's lives so instantly means that we are all reeling from this news.

"Janice has served her community diligently for many years.

"Our thoughts are with her husband John and her family as they support her through this serious situation."

Councillor Hanson represents Harbour ward on both Lancaster City Council and Morecambe Town Council. She is also a former Lancashire County Council chairman.
