Morecambe Bay Foodbank has called for residents to donate school uniforms as demand for them has more than tripled.
The charity, based on Westgate in Morecambe, provides gently used school uniforms to families who are struggling to afford them.
They said demand has grown by more than 200 per cent year-on-year, with a high number of referrals being received and almost 400 uniform packs being sent out this year.
As the summer holidays are the busiest time of the year for demand, the foodbank has set up a donation point at Marketgate shopping centre in Lancaster for families to drop off their uniforms.
Donations can also be dropped off at Anchor Building, 86 Westgate, Morecambe. The opening hours are Monday - Friday 9am to 3pm.
At the moment the Foodbank is urgently seeking the following items
Our Ladies Catholic High School uniform – all sizes, boys and girls
Central High School uniform – all sizes, boys and girls
Bay Leadership Academy – all sizes, boys and girls
Morecambe Bay Academy – all sizes, boys and girls
"We are pleased to be able to help so many families this year, but demand for our service is very high," said Briony Scott, manager of the Foodbank.
"If you have children, especially secondary school age children, who have grown out of branded school uniform items, please consider donating them to us.
"We have a fantastic team of volunteers who are busy sorting donations and packing the uniform packs so please keep them coming!
"Thanks to Marketgate Shopping Centre for supporting us by providing the donation bin and the signage to go with it - it really helps us do our work."
