'Massive financial loss' after theft from new kennels at Lancaster animal shelter

Animal Care is an animal rescue charity based on Blea Tarn Road in Lancaster

A Lancaster animal shelter said they have suffered a "massive financial loss" after thieves stole roofing sheets off their new kennels.

Animal Care on Blea Tarn Road in Scotforth was broken into by four men in a white curtain side truck during the evening and overnight of Saturday and Sunday July 1 and 2.

"They came back another three times over the course of the night; first 10:52pm then 1:01am and finally 3:06am," said a post on the Animal Care Facebook page.

"They removed all the new roofing sheets for our new kennel building. This is devastating for us and a massive financial loss to the charity.

"We are asking if anyone spotted this truck around the Lancaster area at any of these times."

A police spokesperson said they were investigating. If anyone has any information please call police on 101 quoting log Log LC-20230703-0344 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Animal Care has been helping animals since 1978. The registered charity rehomes around 800 animals a year and is entirely self-funded.
