Last sighting of Lancaster murder victim found dead in his flat after violent attack

Police released this image of Damian Jackson in Aldi on Aldcliffe Road in Lancaster on Sunday

Detectives investigating the murder of a man who was found dead in his Lancaster flat after a violent attack have released CCTV of the last time he was seen alive.

Damian Jackson was found on Tuesday morning in his flat in Regent Street in Lancaster, where he lived alone.

Mr Jackson, 50, had died of multiple injuries.

The CCTV shows him in Aldi on Aldcliffe Road, Lancaster, at 10.18am on Sunday (July 23) which was the last time he was seen alive.

Det Supt Gareth Willis, leading the investigation, has spoken to Beyond Radio to appeal for help.

"Damian resided alone in a ground floor flat," said Det Supt Willis.

"He's quite well known in Lancaster, his family live in the area as well.

"He was seen alive and well on Sunday morning at 10am and nobody heard from Damian since that point until tragically he was found roughly 48 hours later."

Damian is pictured below.

"We are really interested to hear from people who know Damian and might help us build an understanding of what Damian's lifestyle was like and what he did on a day to day basis," said Det Supt Willis.

"We do know he has had some telephone contact on Monday but hasn't actually spoken to anyone, that was in the form of a text message.

"He has died as a result of a violent action. Who has caused those injuries, whether that's one person or more than one, that's what the investigation seeks to understand. He's known to frequent the town centre and some of the supermarkets nearby. He is someone who's quite familiar in the local area.

"People will know of Damian, they will have seen him about. The important thing for my investigation is to understand as much as we can about his lifestyle, and his associates and his friends.

"I am very very confident that someone will know the reason why Damian has been attacked in this violent way, which has ultimately led to his death in his flat.

"I would ask those individuals to reflect on what has happened to Damian, and come forward and give us the information we need so we can bring the people to justice that have sadly led to Damian's death."

Police were called at 11.04am on Tuesday by an ambulance crew after Mr Jackson was found.

A team of detectives working on the investigation and specialist officers, including crime scene investigators and forensic experts, remain at Mr Jackson’s flat, and will be there for a considerable period of time as they conduct their work.

Police are also carrying out house to house and CCTV enquiries.
