Lancaster’s Dino Fest set to be biggest ever

Plans have been revealed to make Dino Fest the biggest ever when it returns to Lancaster later this year.

Lancaster BID say that this year it’s planned that the event will be expanded over two weeks, with free half day dinosaurs workshops leading up to the main Dino Fest weekend in July.

Pupils from ten local primary schools will each spend half a day in the city centre participating in a variety of fun and educational activities to learn about dinosaurs and the connection with Lancaster.

Plans for the weekend, over July 8 and 9, also include Dino Workshops, a mobile museum, fossil handling, talks from dinosaur experts, a city centre dinosaur trail, face painting and more.

All activities will be free to take part in.

To help secure all the funding needed for the event, the public can make small donations to a crowdfunding campaign, which is being considered for support by Lancashire County Council’s Crowdfund Lancashire Culture and Sport Fund.

Donations can be from just £2, while businesses who pledge £100 or more will have their logo included on leaflets for the event.

The project is live on Spacehive to accept public donations, with the link here

Dino Fest draws thousands of people into Lancaster City Centre every year, with a balance between entertainment and education. It’s believed the event boosts city centre footfall by more than 20% throughout the weekend bringing additional trade to help support local businesses.

The 2022 event was part of a portfolio of events which won the 'Tourism & Visitor Attraction' award at the Bay Business Excellence Awards.

Meanwhile, Dino Fest was also a finalist in the 2022 Lancashire Tourism Awards in the 'Small Event of The Year' category, and also contributed to Lancaster's nomination in the 'Rising Star' category of the Visa Let's Celebrate Towns Awards as part of a summer long events programme.
