Lancaster’s Coronation Street star is bringing her new play to The Dukes theatre next month.

Christine Mackie’s ‘KIN’ is a dark comedy about power, money & succession, with performances from May 25th-28th.

The synopsis of the play describes ‘Sisters-in-law Kay and Steph meet for the first time in years at the funeral of Robert McGregor. Having never been close, expectations are low, but nothing could prepare them for the revelations that lie ahead. This isn’t two women chatting over the vol-au-vents; it’s Game of Thrones in the Cotswolds and the gloves are off!’

Christine is best known for playing Coronation Street’s Dr Susan Gaddas for the last eight years, and has also starred as Daphne Bryant in the second and third series of Downton Abbey.

The Coronation Street connection continues, as KIN also features another Lancaster actress, Roberta Kerr, who played Wendy Crozier who had an infamous affair with Ken Barlow. The play is directed by Sue Jenkins, who played Rovers barmaid Gloria Todd in the 1980s, before starring as Jackie Corkhill in Brookside.

"In KIN I wanted to write something for two older actresses to get their teeth into,’’ said Christine.

‘’Parts that are complex and dynamic, funny and flawed, passionate and playful: all ingredients that seem sadly lacking in most castings, when you're either the Grandma or someone interested in purchasing a pre-paid funeral!

‘’KIN will be a full-length play with big revelations and a really great night out at the theatre!"

The play deals with adult themes and people under 18 are advised to attend entirely at the discretion of their parent or caregiver.

The play is presented by Best Girl Productions with support from the Arts Council Lottery Fund and The Dukes, Lancaster.
