Lancaster University solar farm at former golf club gets go-ahead

A new solar farm on the site of a former golf club near Lancaster University has been given the green light.

The solar farm will be capable of generating 16.5MW of power which is equivalent to powering 3,125 four-bedroomed homes and will save approximately 2,654 tonnes of CO2 emission annually (the equivalent of 600 average cars being taken off the road).

The farm will be built at the former Forest Hills golf club on land east of Hazelrigg Lane and will be used to power the university campus.

It will have an operational life of 25 years.

The scheme is part of the university's pledge to become carbon neutral by 2035.

Lancaster City Council planning regulatory committee voted in favour of the proposal at a meeting at Morecambe Town Hall on Monday.
