Staff, pupils, governors and guests have celebrated the opening of a new entrance, office, classroom and early years unit at a Lancaster primary school.
Chas Jacobs, local artist and former pupil, officially opened the new facilities at Scotforth St Paul's CE Primary and Nursery School.
The building project at the school has taken more than 18 months to complete.
The grand opening of the school’s new entrance and office space, the newly built Year 2 classroom and the Early Years’ Unit took place on Monday.
This purpose-built unit, with direct access to a play area and the wider playground, will benefit the children currently in school and for many years to come, said a school spokesperson.
Members of the Ripley Trust and Blackburn Diocese, who provided the funding for the project, attended the opening.
Headteacher Katie Walsh welcomed ex staff members, parents and governors, and personnel from Cassidy and Ashton and Ashbarn Construction, who oversaw the project.
The children began the event with some enthusiastic singing, despite the cold weather.
Keith Weatherill, the chair of governors, thanked all those who had helped and supported in making the building project possible.
Following a blessing by Archdeacon David Picken, Chas Jacobs talked about his time as a pupil at Scotforth St Paul’s School before officially opening the new building to a rousing round of applause.
After the formalities, the guests were invited into the school hall for refreshments and a guided tour of the school – led by the Year 6 pupils.
One guest commented that “the early years space is fabulous” and another said “the office area is impressive and provides a lovely welcome into school”.
