INTERVIEW: Morecambe Vintage-by-the-sea festival set to be "biggest ever"

Vintage-by-the-sea returns to Morecambe this weekend

The local team behind the Morecambe vintage festival have explained why this year's event is the biggest in its nine-year history.

Elena Jackson and Lauren Zawadzki from Deco Publique said the 2022 Vintage by the sea has more events, attractions and activities than ever before.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the Promenade this weekend (Saturday September 3 and 4) from all over the UK to celebrate 20th century culture.

"It's probably the biggest programme yet, with the most things you can do over the weekend, lots of indoor and outdoor activities," said Lauren.

The festival will be packed full of music, dancing, street theatre, cinema, food, fashion, markets and all the fun of the fair.

Vintage by the Sea events take place in and around the Midland Hotel, the Promenade Gardens, the Winter Gardens and The Platform.

The Promenade will be closed between Northumberland Street and Central Drive from 9am to 6pm both days.

Highlights include:

Family friendly workshops offering seaside crafts, printmaking, collage, leatherworking and pop-up dance classes
The Vintage Bike Ride from the Midland Hotel to the Venus and Cupid statue and back
A Rapid Painting Competition open to all ages and abilities.
Artist Hannah Fox will explore Morecambe’s seaside view, its history and its potential future in the new work – 'What you looking at?'
The Midland’s Torch Club Ball
The After Party with veteran Hacienda DJ, Dave Haslam on the Saturday. Both these events are ticketed and must be booked in advance.

Vintage by the Sea was co-founded in 2013 by Morecambe-born designer, Wayne Hemingway, his wife Gerardine and son Jack Hemingway, their company Hemingway Design and Morecambe-based art and culture company Deco Publique. It is produced by Deco Publique in partnership with Lancaster City Council.

Vintage by the Sea is supported with funding from Arts Council England, Lancaster City Council, Morecambe Town Council and Morecambe BID. It is sponsored by The Midland Hotel & English Lakes and Taylors Funfairs.

“We're delighted to be welcoming Vintage by the Sea back to Morecambe this year for what is sure to be a highlight of the district's events calendar," said Councillor Sandra Thornberry, Lancaster City Council’s cabinet member for arts, culture, leisure and wellbeing.
