A metal detectorist from Lancaster has uncovered a rare find in a muddy farmer's field which has been officially declared as treasure.
Jacob Purdie stumbled across a gold pin head in the field just outside Carnforth, and experts have told him it could date back 1000 years to Anglo-Saxon times.
The jewellery is currently being valued but 30-year-old Jacob, from Halton, said: "What it's worth is of little importance to me. I'm just glad to have found it."
He said: "It's definitely the most special find I've ever had."

Jacob, who has been metal detecting for three years, said: "I saw it, didn't think anything of it. I thought it was some foil. Then I had a closer look and saw the elaborate design and knew almost immediately, I'd stumbled upon something quite important.
"From experts in the field, they are leaning towards 10th century Saxon.
"If it was from Saxon times, whoever lost that, they must have had some importance.
"A week later I found an Edward III quarter noble coin, another rare find. I was very very lucky in that week!
"Back then, single precious metal coins weren't deemed as treasure so I got to keep that, and gave the farmer his half."
The pin head was valued as treasure by Cumbria County Coroner in December.
The Treasure Valuation Committee is now determining a value and museums have been alerted in case they wish to buy the jewellery.
Items are classed as treasure if they are gold and more than 300 years old.
