Hundreds join ‘Enough is Enough’ protest in Lancaster

A protest march and rally about the rising concerns over the cost of living was attended by hundreds of people in Lancaster over the weekend.

The event was part of the national campaign 'Enough is Enough', and saw crowds of people march from the CWU postal dispute picket line on Fenton Street, joining trade unionists, strikers and campaigners angry at the direction the country is heading in, with the cost of living crisis and supporting strikers.

The group then headed to a rally in Dalton Square, where they were joined by former Labour shadow chancellor, John McDonnell MP, in town for an anniversary event In Morecambe marking the last Labour conference held there in 1952.

The city's Enough is Enough march and rally was organised by Lancaster and Morecambe TUC, and was just one of many held across the UK as thousands joined a National Day of Action.

Speakers represented trade unions, strikers, environmental and rent activists, anti-poverty campaigners, Just Stop Oil, political parties and Poverty & Truth Commission.

L&M TUC presidents Eugene Doherty said: "This shows the strength of feeling out there, we had about 300 with us today, with strong support for strikers, the public clapping, and we collected over £500 in donations which we will distribute from our strike fund.

"The theme was Enough is Enough, this is just the start, and we will continue to support strikers."
