Greens win Lancaster City Council by-election in Warton

Councillor Sue Tyldesley

The Greens won the Lancaster City Council by-election in Warton.

The by-election was won by Sue Tyldesley who won by a margin of 283 votes.

The seat was previously held by the Conservatives. Turnout was 40.46 per cent.

The full result was:

HARBISON, Iain Scott - The Conservative Party Candidate 169

KENRICK, Faith - Labour Party 44

PARSONS, Jane - Liberal Democrat 23

TYLDESLEY, Susan Margaret  - Green Party 452 Elected

The Green and Independent Group now has 15 elected councillors on Lancaster City Council. Labour has 16, the Conservatives have nine, the Morecambe Bay Independents six, the Independent group has four, the Bay Independent Group four, the Liberal Democrats have four, and there are two vacant seats.

The by-election was held after the resignation of Conservative, Adrian De La Mare.

Councillor Tyldesley lives in Yealand and has been an active member of Yealand Conyers Parish Council for several years. She is a Quaker and volunteers for Citizen's Advice. 

She runs a small local arts practice and is part of the Silverdale and Arnside Art and Craft Trail, and the Loving Earth project which helps people to engage with the climate crisis creatively through textiles. The new councillor is also a former Head of Development Control at Sefton Council.
