Four men from Morecambe are about to tackle the world's highest mountain.

Bru Wood, Ben Yates, Kris Bishop and Jason O'Mara will set off to the Himalayas later this month to climb up to the Mount Everest Base Camp. They will be joined by their friend Dave Simpson from Bristol.

Bru, who is the landlord of The Palatine pub in Morecambe, said: "I'm a bit nervous to be honest but mega excited for an epic journey.

"If it was easy we wouldn't be doing it but we're definitely ready for the challenges ahead."

The group will set off from Manchester on March 11.

They will trek across Nepal and up to the Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres, in a journey which could take up to 17 days.

Everest itself has a height of 8,849m.

They are raising funds for local charities, and Bru and Ben have set up crowdfunding pages.

Ben's page is here.
