Fire crews have twice been called this month to concerns over the safety of buildings in Carnforth town centre.

Carnforth Town Council called out the fire service on January 2 after the facia board and other debris fell off the empty former Entwistle Green building.

Then earlier this week, the fire service was called again after further worries about 1 & 2 Station buildings following high winds.

Lancaster City Council has also been informed and said "immediate dangers have been removed".

"'There have been concerns about the state of some buildings on Market Street, Carnforth for some time," said Bob Bailey, clerk of Carnforth Town Council.

"No more so than 1 & 2 Station Buildings which have been empty for several years and are now in a poor state.

"Carnforth Town Council alerted Lancaster City Council to the latest problems on two occasions since the beginning of the year.  We expect to have an update in the coming days on what action the owners will be taking to ensure that the buildings are made safe and no longer a danger to the general public."

A spokesperson for Lancaster City Council said: "We are aware of recent issues relating to 1 Station buildings and have responded to these on each occasion and coordinated attendance with the Fire and Rescue Service.

"The respective dangers that were uncovered were removed. Works to secure the building were arranged by the owner of the property.

"Unfortunately, recent high winds led to some material on the roof coming loose. However, these have also now been dealt with and the immediate dangers removed.

"The owner is continuing to work with the council to help deal with any issues associated with the building and work is ongoing in that regard.

"2 Station Buildings remains safe and secure following emergency works which were carried out at the property in 2019.  However, this property is not considered dangerous and was not the cause of any recent issues relating to 1 Station Buildings."
