Excitement in village near Lancaster as The Bay TV cast and crew arrive

DS Jenn Townsend is played by Marsha Thomason

Film crews have descended on a village near Lancaster to film scenes for the hit TV series The Bay.

The Bay team is in Glasson Dock this week shooting for the fifth series of the ITV1 crime drama based in the Morecambe Bay area.

Businesses in Glasson have been getting ready to welcome cast and crew, and some will be locations for the series.

Posts on The Dalton Arms pub Facebook page said: "The scaffolding is down. The pub is freshly painted. The road at the end of the carpark has been repaved. And Glasson Dock is due to be a location for TV show 'The Bay'.

"Such exciting stuff for our small little village.

"The Dalton Arms will be open as normal from noon on Tuesday whilst filming for ‘The Bay’ is taking place.

"Please be aware the bridge is closed for the two days (Monday and Tuesday) but you can access West Quay on the back road past the school.

"There will be traffic control on Tithebarn Hill during filming.

"Access through the village is left at the mini roundabout and round past the school towards Bodhi Hill and down Tithebarn Hill.

"Parking can be found on the large carpark on the other side of the village, and you're able to walk to us throughout filming breaks."

The Shop at Glasson is also open as normal 8.30pm to 5pm every day whilst filming of The Bay is taking place.

The Quayside Cafe will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, as it is being used by The Bay film crew.

"We are very excited that Glasson is being used for some scenes in the upcoming series, and we look forward to watching it," said a post on the Quayside Cafe Facebook page.

The crew has also been filming in Morecambe and Heysham for the new series.

Locations in Series 4 of The Bay, shown on ITV1 earlier this year, included the Smugglers Den pub in Morecambe (below).

The fifth series sees Marsha Thomason return as Morecambe Family Liaison Officer, DS Jenn Townsend alongside cast regulars Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher and Andrew Dowbiggin. Olwen May (Happy Valley, Trying) will join the team in Morecambe. Barry Sloane returns as Chris Fischer. Georgia Scholes plays Chris’s daughter Erin, and David Carpenter and Emme Hayes return as Conor and Maddie, Jenn’s children. Suzanne Packer (Casualty, Keeping Faith) joins as Jenn’s mum, Anne Townsend.

When 23-year-old university student, Hannah, is found dead on the edge of the docks, Morecambe’s MIU team has another case to solve. Jenn, who is returning to work following the death of her father, pushes aside her own grief to support Hannah’s bitterly divided family.

With the stakes of the investigation high, Jenn and the team dig deeper into the case, they uncover hidden friendships and secret liaisons as the anger rises in the student community. As intensity increases, and the team peel back the complicated layers of Hannah’s life and the secrets within it, Jenn must reconcile her personal and professional struggles as she grapples to solve the case, come to terms with her own loss and build bridges with her family.

Joining the new series as guest cast are Leanne Best (The Walk-In, Cold Feet), Neil Maskell (Hijack, Kill List), David Troughton (A Very Peculiar Place, New Tricks), Stephen Wight (Screw, I May Destroy You) and Ceallach Spellman (Better, White Lines). Tara Lynne O’Neill (The Full Monty, Derry Girls) joins as Sinead, as DI Tony Manning’s new partner.
